The Grocer at Fresh Choice Nelson City visited the historic vineyards of Langmeil wines last year. The grocer found their vineyards in South Australia captivating, and also their wines. He now has their range of beautiful red wines in store so you can enjoy them too.
The Lindner family owns Langmeil, their mark on the Barossa spans six generations of farming, food, community and wine. The winery is renowned for its preservation of old vines and the making of distinguished wines from these cherished sites.
Heritage and Langmeil Wines:
The family is committed to preserving the history of the Barossa Valley vineyards. To the point that, in 2006, they started the eighteen-month process of saving 320 old Shiraz vines in a derelict Barossa vineyard, by transplanting them one vine at a time (with a 95% survival rate) to their Eden Valley site.
Originally planted pre-1860 in the heart of the Barossa some of these vines are 160 years old. You can taste the results of the incredible dedication of the Lindner family, by buying a bottle of 2016 Orphan Bank Vineyard Shiraz for $52, (a saving of $5). That’s about 32 cents for each year of the vine’s life. This remarkably intense and vibrant wine carries its price tag with pride.
Langmeil also has a cherished relationship with many of the seven hundred growers in the wider Barossa and Eden Valleys. These relationships ensure they have access to some of the very best fruit grown in South Australia, allowing them to make wines like the Langmeil Valley Floor Shiraz, $32, (a saving of $6). Fruit grown throughout the Barossa Valley is used to make this Shiraz.
