This week at Fresh Choice Nelson, we’re welcoming back Paula Saengthian-Ngam as our guest blogger (Find Paula on Facebook). Paula’s feeling inspired by the arrival of Spring and she’s talking healthy eating!
With the spring weather comes the availability of more fresh fruit and vegetables. We also all start to look forward to summer and there’s something about this time of year, as we come out of comfortable layers, that means we seem to start focusing more on healthy eating.
Personally, I find my exercise regime picks up at this time of year too, walking more instead of driving, and just getting out and about in the open air!
If you feel like an energy boost, or want to increase your fruit and veggie intake, as you concentrate on healthy eating; smoothies can be an easy and tasty way to do this. I’ve been starting my day with a smoothie before breakfast, as I’ve been so hungry feeding a newborn. Smoothies also make a great pre or post workout snack. I go for a mix of ingredients added to a coconut water and banana base.
My favourite healthy eating smoothies are Greenie, Choc Peanut Butter and Chia Berry.
Fresh Choice Nelson has a great range of superfoods to add to your smoothies, and they also carry all the ingredients for my top three smoothies. I’ve listed the ingredients below… Just blend and serve!
Greenie
- 1 1/2 cups of coconut water
- 1 banana
- 1 cup of baby spinach
- 1 green kiwifruit
- Handful of ice
Choc Peanut Butter
- 1 cup of coconut water
- 1 banana
- 4 dates
- 1 Tbsp of cacao or cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup of almond milk
- 1 Tbsp of Pics peanut butter
Chia Berry
- 1 cup of coconut water
- 1 banana
- 1/4 cup of coconut cream
- 1/2 cup of frozen berries
- 1Tbsp of chia seeds
