Let’s not forget local sparkling wines because there are a huge range in store including Cloudy Bay NV, Cloudy Bay 2008 Vintage, Huia Brut 2009 and Nautilus Cuvee Brut NV to name a few.
I think the best value sparkling wine on the shelf is the Aimery Grand Cuvee 1531 from the Limoux region in France, not a champagne but a beautiful wine, especially the delicate salmon pink coloured rose. Slightly fruitier than the white version and with an incredibly delicate mousse texture and a dry finish this is a very sophisticated sparkling wine for a mere $21.99.
