Enomatic Wine Dispenser @ Fresh Choice Nelson

Enomatic Wine Dispenser NelsonAt Fresh Choice Nelson we love to be trailblazers… That’s why we were the very first supermarket in the country to make tasting wine before you bought it easy. About five years ago we installed an Enomatic Wine Dispenser.

This temperature controlled cabinet holds eight bottles of wine and dispenses a tasting of one of those eight wines when you insert your special card and push the button above the wine you want to try.

The Enomatic Wine Dispenser keeps the wine fresh by using an inert gas to force the measure of wine from the bottle with the gas replacing the wine; this means the wine doesn’t oxidise and will taste like a freshly opened bottle for many days.

We have two of these temperature controlled cabinets in store. One for red wine and one for white. So each style is served at the perfect drinking temperature.

If you would like to taste from the Enomatic Wine Dispenser before you select your wine to buy, all you need to do is register with one of the wine staff in store. You pay a small $10 fee to cover the cost of the card you need to access tastings, and then every month you’ll get sixteen tastings for free, meaning you can taste all sixteen featured wines over the month if you’d like to.

You won’t get bored because we change the wines regularly, you might even discover some new varieties and favourites as you explore the wonderful world of wine.

It goes without saying that you need to be old enough to buy wine to register and use a tasting card, so if you would like to sign up, just pop into Fresh Choice Nelson with your ID and talk to a member of the friendly wine team. Then away you go… Happy Tasting!

Healthy Eating with Fresh Choice Nelson

With the spring weather comes the availability of more fresh fruit and vegetables. We also all start to look forward to summer and there’s something about this time of year, as we come out of comfortable layers, that means we seem to start focusing more on healthy eating.

Personally, I find my exercise regime picks up at this time of year too, walking more instead of driving, and just getting out and about in the open air!

If you feel like an energy boost, or want to increase your fruit and veggie intake, as you concentrate on healthy eating; smoothies can be an easy and tasty way to do this. I’ve been starting my day with a smoothie before breakfast, as I’ve been so hungry feeding a newborn. Smoothies also make a great pre or post workout snack. I go for a mix of ingredients added to a coconut water and banana base.

My favourite healthy eating smoothies are Greenie, Choc Peanut Butter and Chia Berry.

Fresh Choice Nelson has a great range of superfoods to add to your smoothies, and they also carry all the ingredients for my top three smoothies. I’ve listed the ingredients below… Just blend and serve!

Greenie

  • 1 1/2 cups of coconut water
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup of baby spinach
  • 1 green kiwifruit
  • Handful of ice

Choc Peanut Butter

  • 1 cup of coconut water
  • 1 banana
  • 4 dates
  • 1 Tbsp of cacao or cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup of almond milk
  • 1 Tbsp of Pics peanut butter

Chia Berry

  • 1 cup of coconut water
  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 cup of coconut cream
  • 1/2 cup of frozen berries
  • 1Tbsp of chia seeds

Picnic Food at Fresh Choice Nelson

With daffodils coming into flower in Nelson and the days drawing out, it’s clear that spring is just around the corner. After spending time inside over the winter months, it’s time to get out in the fresh air again. What better way to do that than with some yummy picnic food!

Fresh Choice, Nelson has a great selection of Artisan cheeses, cured meats, extra special cracker biscuits, and lots of antipasto ingredients to get your picnic started. Add some fresh crusty bread, some Proper Crisps, some spicy ginger beer, and your picnic is almost complete. A really great picnic needs freshly baked treats. This recipe is just the ticket. Buttery, fragrant and delicious to share. Take care not to over mix the dough, and you’ll produce light, fluffy scones. Pack your basket and your favourite rug, and head to your favourite spot.

Cinnamon Pinwheels

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cups Flour
  • 4 tsp Baking Powder
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 2 tbsp White Sugar
  • 60g Butter, cubed.
  • 1 Cup Milk

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees C and line a roasting dish with baking paper.
  2. Sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar into a medium mixing bowl.
  3. Using your fingers rub the butter cubes into the dry ingredients until it resembles course bread crumbs and there are no large pieces of butter.
  4. Add 3/4 of the milk at once, keeping 1/4 aside. It should be soft but stcky, if dry looking, add the remaining milk. Stir in quickly but don’t overmix.
  5. Tip the dough onto a floured bench. Knead or fold 8 – 10 times, flouring, as required, to keep the dough from sticking. Then roll out a square about 30cm x 30cm.

Cinnamon Sugar Mixture:

  1. Soften 70gm butter, but don’t melt. Spread this over your dough square.
  2. Mix 1/3 cup sugar and 1 tbsp cinnamon, and sprinkle this evenly over the buttered dough, leaving a small edge free on one side.
  3. Roll up into a scroll starting opposite the free edge. Rolling carefully and tightly, seal the edge with a little milk or melted butter.
  4. Using a sharp knife slice the pinwheels between 1-2 cm thick and place in the prepared dish.
  5. Bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
